Favorite Import of the Day: Thomas Lalonde from Roméo et Juliette

New adaptations of Shakespeare's immortal tale of forbidden love are often met with skepticism, and for good reason. A few weeks ago I caught a Canadian version of the tale entitled Roméo et Juliette from director Yves Desgagnés. I must say I enjoyed this version very much. Yes it is in French, but don't let that stop you from seeing it, it is very visual with wonderful music and great actors and had me hooked the entire movie. It had all the elements for great watching, great looking cast, Roméo in this version was part of the swim team, so of course lots of shirtless shots. A gay storyline for two of the supporting cast members and as I stated some great music.

I was hooked as well by the adorable Thomas Lalonde in the role of Roméo. Thomas is cute as hell and did a great job in the role. This young actor has only made 2 films, but I am sure we will be seeing much more of him. My research did not find too much about Thomas, but again, it is still very early in his career. His smile and amazing eyes had me from his first scene. I could stare in those eyes forever. If you get a chance to rent this movie, I would highly recommend doing so. I will be keeping my eye out for future projects featuring Thomas and will be sure to share anything new I find on this Canadian hottie.

Favorite co-stars from Roméo et Juliette

Co-stars DANNY GAGNÉ and DAVID MICHAËL are also very interesting to watch.

DAVID MICHAËL

DAVID MICHAËL plays Roméo's best friend Louki. His obsession with the 'straight' Étienne does not bode well for either character.

DANNY GAGNÉ

DANNY GAGNÉ plays Étienne Véronneau, a member of Juliette's family who does not respond well to the advances of Louki.

Things get 'complicated' when the two characters get together.

Favorite Classic Romeo: Leonard Whiting

Speaking of Romeo's... Many many actors have put on the tights to play the doomed young lover, recently Leonardo DiCaprio gave it a shot, but my all time favorite has to be Leonard Whiting from the 1968 version. I remember catching it on late night tv in the early 80's, and Leonard had one of the most adorable faces and behinds I had ever seen. It may have been the first ass I saw on television, I don't remember for sure. Leonard has not done much since this movie though and appears not to have acted professionally for almost the past 20 years. You will be remembered Leonard.
