Eat, Drink & be Scary

'The reason I love Halloween is that unlike most holidays, Halloween is one you can make entirely your own. There are no pressures to decorate (which I do), or cook, (which I don't) there are no family meals or visits from the cousin you choose to avoid most of the rest of the year. There are no gifts to buy and there are not battles over whether the religious connection should or should not be in the play and you eat things you mostly try to avoid the rest of the year. Halloween is also the night you can dress as you would the rest of the year if only you could get away with it!'
Tye Briggs, FH (2012)

hope you enjoyed the past week's Halloween themed posts. I enjoyed researching and watching some of Wes Craven's films for the Constant Craven section. I have been fortunate to have so many incredible artists and models contribute to the blog, and appreciate all the support they gave when I bugged many of them for Halloween themed material for the site's annual celebration of All Hallows' Eve . If you missed any of the Halloween features, or want to check out some of scary & sexy posts from Halloween's past, check out all of my 100+ Halloween themed posts HERE:

The FH Costume Parade!

As I do every year, (see last years post HERE:) FH hosted it's annual Halloween and costume bash this past Saturday night. The party was a lavish affair filled with the hottest of Halloween Hunks. As you all know the party's motto is 'less is more' and as you can see, most of this years entries undressed for the occasion!

Wyatt got a little of tired of people wanting to unwrap him, but as the evening gave on he put his hands up and allowed judges to remove the ribbon from the package.

Given he was 'working' the party, Matthew was really permitted to enter, but his exits were so spectacular, I felt he needed a mention.

Many of you have seen Bernardo in and out of his police uniform before, but given how well he fills it out, no one was complaining.

Sam's black Calvin's hit a touch down with the judges

Alex's kitty was a hit, but he hissed and scratched when some tried to lick up his milk.

Todd's extravagant get up was an eye catcher and Todd swears his penis pod was built to size.

These Vampires were certainly a hot trio but they really put on a show sucking the poor pirate dry at the end of the night.

Painted superheroes have become common at Halloween, but this group of 5 had a special power which made them stand out.

No one could resist our trio of turtles and their impressively huge heads

Although Seth and friends debuted these looks in Madrid last New Years Eve, they were the nights clear winners.  Seth's strap kept his pouch in place, but it is still a mystery how his friends kept their penis plates from falling off.

'Help me! Help! Help, Mommy! Help! Help, Mommy! Mommy, help!'
Jason Voorhees

In general, I don't think axes and penises should be mixed too closely together. Too many things could go horribly wrong. Yet... the very first time I profiled the work of Seattle model DirtRoad, (To the Woodshed) he was also wielding an axe.

That's not to say all of Warren Russell's (DirtRoad) work has a sinister feel. When I first featured his work with photographer Gary Larson from Noplacia Photography this past August, Gary shot Warren hanging leisurely on some train tracks and in a beautiful field of yellow flowers. I love Gary's work with Warren and as soon as I saw these images a few months ago contacted Gary about using them on Halloween week.

I love the stark simplicity of Gary's set-up, an axe, a hockey mask, a black background and Warren. Warren is an exceptionally skilled model at adapting to whatever character, story or concept put in front of him. There are nuances within his work, especially in his work with Gary, that go beyond just admiring and enjoying his naked body.

Even without seeing his face, Warren's Jason Voorhees is not a monster but a tormented and intensely lonely character. The bare and empty surroundings Gary provided give Warren little to hang onto except his axe and his emotions. This Jason is not rewarded for his violent crimes, he is tormented. When he finally does removes his mask he turns his back to the camera, keeping his face hidden even when totally exposed.

Freddy's Homoerotic Revenge

'Personally for me the movie was a nightmare, After it was released I was living in a world where homosexuality was a career killer. As my teacher once told me, I do not need to play vulnerable, I am.'

Jesse Artwork by Lee Howard

I had always heard and read that the follow up to A Nightmare on Elm Street, 1985's Freddy's Revenge had a gay sub-plot. Sub-plots however are supposed to be secondary to the main plot, subtle even, something the gay themes in the film certainly were not. (Just check out this scene of Mark being pants by hottie Robert Rusler) I just finally watched the film last month and could write a lot about it, instead will let the visuals from the film, and it's three male leads tell the story. I will say this was one of my favorites from the series, not the gay themes, but it was one of the better character driven stories from the franchise.

For the real story, I am looking forward to star Mark Patton's upcoming documentary Scream Queen, an upcoming film that Mark has been raising funds on Kickstarter for over the past while. If you do quick search on the film, there are already a few interviews with Mark describing his time on the set, dissatisfaction with some who worked on the film, and his struggle for roles after the films release.

'A documentary film focusing on the gay experience in Hollywood horror, Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street explores how that experience has changed in the three decades since Mark Patton’s controversial portrayal of Jesse Walsh, the object of Freddy Krueger’s latent desire in Nightmare on Elm Street 2. Scream, Queen! examines the infamous homoerotic subtext and the special place the film holds in the Nightmare franchise as well as the gay film canon.'

Constant Craven #6: Marshall Bell in Freddy's Revenge

Marshall Bell as Coach Schneider
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
Craven Connection: Writer (Characters)

You have to wonder what then 43 year old actor Marshall Bell knew what he was getting into playing the lecherous Coach Schneider in Freddy's Revenge. Initially you didn't know for sure if Schneider was just an hard coach, or a coach just hard for his players. It turned out of course to be the latter.

Freddy's Revenge was on of Bell's first films but he went on to work steadily in film and television in many roles including one of his most famous roles playing resistance leader George / Kuato, along side Arnold Schwarzenegger, in 1990's Total Recall. Some of Bell's other roles included turns in' Legal Eagles, Stand By Me, Manhunter, Twins, Dick Tracey, Air America, Payback and Natural Born Killers

It has reported the gay themes throughout the movie were initially intended to be just a sub plot, but it turned out, especially for Bell's character to be the main focus. You have to wonder if the writers used Coach Schneider's naked and painful ending as punishment for his advancements towards his student, or as punishment for simply being gay.

Schneider's secret night life of leather and bondage pulled in more than a few stereotypes and but they can be forgiven being it was 1985. Having several male to male attractions as main components of a major motion picture was really quite amazing for that time period. This is even more incredible in hind sight given the Aids crisis was at the beginning stages of being well known to mainstream Americans.

'Five hours faced down, while the make-up artists were glueing on the rubber. This scene had to be correct at the first take. And it was!'
Marshall Bell

Marshall shares more behind the scenes info and images from the making of this scene on his website HERE:
